A prestigious establishment which has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Sleeper prize for the best chain design hotel (2007) and the best design award (also 2007) bestowed by Wallpaper magazine, the Marqués de Riscal hotel nestles amongst the best vineyards of the Rioja region, in the Navarre, in the heart of Basque country. Designed by celebrated architect Frank O. Gehry, this hotel is his second creation in Spain, the first being the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.

Some 1800 m² of interwoven titanium ribbons are wrapped around the blond-stone boxes which contain the 43 bedrooms, of which 10 are suites; the 2 restaurants, the 1860 bistro and Marques de Riscal restaurant, which offer not only a selection of the finest grands crus in the world but also the best of the regional Basque & Rioja cuisine blended with modern touches; the Vinoteca wine bar; and a lounge room/library. The Vinothérapie Caudalíe spa is the jewel in the crown of the leisure infrastructure with an indoor pool, hammam, wellbeing centre, Jacuzzi, reviving shower and 14 treatment rooms. All products are made from a base of extracts of grape and mineral water, the exclusive creations of Caudalíe Vinothérapie.

The interior arrangement, also by Franck Gehry, is a marriage of forms, colours (wine red, red, ruby, copper) and materials (leather, fabric, wood, marble). Alongside prestigious pieces of furniture such as the Clouds ceiling lights designed by Gehry himself, low tables by Saarinen, Verner Panton chairs or even the Alvar Aalto tables and chairs and the Pop fireside chairs designed by Christian Werner for Ligne Roset Contracts are the common thread linking the bedrooms, lobby, public areas and bar. Gehry also designed the headboards and bedroom furniture especially for the project.

In addition, since its opening the Marques de Riscal hotel has been covered by hundreds of national and international magazines, books and guides, whatever the subject matter: travel, gastronomy, wine, wellbeing, lifestyle, architecture…and design.
